Technical Lead

Position: Full Time; Permanent | Department: Development | Salary: upon application

Reporting to: Operations Director

Job role

The role of the Technical Lead is to be the senior point of contact for the development team (web and interactive) at Bradley Dyer as well as scoping out new projects across the full life cycle and providing technical input into experiential opportunities alongside our client service, project management and creative teams. The role is hands on, with an expected 50% of the post holders time dedicated to coding and the other 50% dedicated to innovation, learning and scoping. Reporting directly in to the Operations Director, the Technical Lead will have a significant part to play in the further development of our digital offering, holding responsibility for delivery of projects ranging from £5000 to £150,000. With an opportunity to define the team around them, their scale of influence is high, providing them with an opportunity to make a real difference in an energetic agency with a range of digital ideas. The Technical Lead will be expected to bring a strong understanding of digital to the role and be able to communicate to both technical and client facing individuals. A coding background is essential, ideally in both front end (HTML5, CSS, Javascript, SASS) and back end (PHP, Symphony), along with good exposure to Drupal 7 or 8. You will have held a lead developer role previously, have scoped medium to large scale projects from the outset, and be comfortable working with the occasional third party supplier. Exposure to Dev Ops would also be of great advantage, although is not essential. The candidate should be able to demonstrate a logical approach to problem solving, a willingness to challenge team members and be able to appreciate both client and agency viewpoints to determine project direction. Critically, they will understand what working in an agency environment entails, and be comfortable in the extra mile approach that provides greater personal flexibility outside a standard 9-5 role. Essential Desirable
  • A relevant degree or appropriate commercial experience.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or significant self-education.
  • 10 years+ experience in a developer role
  • Have led teams of developers as either a direct line manager or leader of projects
  • Experienced in testing of digital outputs and providing constructive and quality feedback
  • Exposure to an agency environment with fixed deadlines and budgets Technical support role
  • Knowledge of Agile or PRINCE2 principles
